  1. anon says:

    aww little Luna…….

  2. Cobalt says:

Don’t feel bad Luna, Tia’s sandcastle has to be big to cover up her insecurities.

  3. ryttyr says:

That’d probably be how my little sis would have felt if we didn’t build our sandcastles together as we always did.
Also, those flags. Are they canon? Like, are they the flags of USA’s and Germany’s BoE counterparts? Or are they off brand for the sake of being off brand, in which case why didn’t you use truly fictional or just plainly coloured flags?

    1. Arn says:

They are the little flags that come in the drinks served. Why?
You might as well ask why we put umbrellas in the drinks….and lemons….why ‘s!

….maybe Luna could use some of those Black Mesa exploding lemons…for fortress blue team defence you know….

    2. Shieltar says:

If you’ve ever been to a beach where they sell little packs of flags for sand castles, there ALWAYS cheap off brand flags, and there are never 2 the same.

      1. Actually Shieltar, while the black/red/gold flag on Tia’s sandcastle is off-brand for Germany, the red-and-white-stripes with one star flag exists.

        It’s Liberia. xD https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Liberia

I think Tia’s overcompensating for something, judging by the size of her very impressive sandcastle. Or perhaps she’s doing some initial architectural designs for the Castle of the Two Sisters? πŸ™‚

        1. Shieltar says:

dang! And here I thought I was doing an off brand american flag. Mind you, It’s still an off brand for Liberia too, as mine does not have enough stripes. so yay ^^

          1. Well if it makes you feel any better, Shieltar, the flag of Liberia is basically an off-brand clone of the flag of America anyway. Apparently the actual US flag of the time was used by the Commonwealth of Liberia shortly before they officially gained independence, when they just made their own off-brand version to show that they had gained independence (presumably they wanted to model themselves on the US).
It’s also a little bit like the flag of Texas, too… xD

            1. Arn says:

It’s so nice other countries want to model themselves after U.S. with flag: People in Hong Kong waving star spangled banner while singing U.S. national anthem in their quest for freedom!

              1. Yet_One_More_Idiot says:

Yes, while people in the US state of Hawai’i proudly display the British Union Flag on their state flag! πŸ˜€

                1. Arn says:

Hawaii residents can protest being a U.S. state. They can petition to leave the union. They can shut down a telescope used to look for planet killing asteroids and as US citizens they have that right. They have the right to gather, beat drums, wave flags, and scream to the sky for as long as they want.
Little Hong Kong, one protest of five people in frustration standing around doing nothing and all the law enforcement and clandestine services is applied with malicious force!

  4. Arn says:

    Don’t be sad Luna! It’s a grand flag…still waves…even after the storm…

  5. C_Chell says:

I don’t understand, the previous page is page 16 and then 20, where are the pages 17, 18 and 19 ?
    Mistake in page number ?

    1. Matthew says:

No they are there it problely just because you over looked them

  6. Dany Doucet says:

Uh Sheiltar… Isn’t this page 17 of the seventh book?

  7. Yet_One_More_Idiot says:

I like Woona’s widdle castle much better – it’s adorable (just like her!) and not huge and obviously compensating for personal insecurities like, oh, let’s say somepony called Tia who shall remain nameless hereafter… πŸ˜›

I can’t really do sandcastles, but I can do some basic CG castle designs. Here’s one I made the other week in 3D Slash: http://fav.me/ddbcxmw

Bit unsure about the page-numbering here, this is page 20 following on from page 17? Is the page number wrong or did we skip over 3 pages to get here?

  8. Smithers says:

Luna looks so adorable while claiming this beach for Liberia.

  9. Alan says:

Cute, but where did they… get the flags?..

    1. Jared says:

from the looks of it, they made them in one of two ways, magic or arts and crafts way.

I’m betting Celestria used magic to make the castle that big so fast. Here’s hoping Luna’s castle is the one that survives the inevitable wave

    2. Alan says:

      Oh wait… there’s a whole conversation about that…

  10. Arn says:

Look out ponies for Mark Twain’s Mysterious Stranger!
It might be cool to have little ponies run around the castle….but not the way he would make them…” We can always make more….”
So much to do on the beach.

  11. DragonMaus says:

I know for a fact that I have seen this page before, but I cannot find it.

    Have I finally gone mad?

    1. This page was accidentally released directly after page 16. Then, when the mistake was realised, was replaced with the correct page 17. That’s probably why you’ve seen it before. πŸ™‚

  12. Nikary Flare says:

    Classic %)

  13. stackspaper321 says:

Waaait a second… Looking back, isn’t Grace supposed to have her cutie mark even in human form?

    1. It’s covered by her long t-shirt and her bikini bottoms, I think. πŸ™‚

      1. Arn says:

At least her T-shirt isn’t controversial.
        There isn’t a flag on it…

  14. Borg says:

It’s because upside-down German engineering is just better than Liberian engineering.

  15. Arn says:

When did Celestia become interested in Byzantine or Bablalonian architecture?
    I’m leaving Babylonian like that!
If the sisters said that it would be adorable!

    1. Yet_One_More_Idiot says:

Especially when the castles shown in the series look much more mediaeval European in design.

I agree, seeing Tia and/or Lulu struggling to say Balablionyan would be totes adorabubble! <3

      1. Arn says:

Well, Luna and Celestia’s tastes changed over time.
Maybe they unearthed an old Sleeping Beauty cartoon from Disney and we’re reminded of mom.
Looking like a fortress a child looks for a place of safety add to the desire to have some power and look to from below and looking down…

  16. Alan says:

In panel 1 woona is facing away from the ocean angled to her right. she then proceeds to look over her left shoulder for tia, and is then facing to her right again when she sees her. She should have both noticed the sand fortress in the first place and is breaking… oh wait she was likely looking for tia when she turned the other way… but how did she not notice it? Tia’s castle is on her right? The mountain is behind Tia? Maybe pinkie pie is related somehow? And why am I overdoing this? Forget it. Shieltar, your comic is amazing, and I like your art style πŸ™‚

  17. AeroTendo says:

Is Tia’s castle supposed to be a representation of the MLP:FIM Canterlot castle?

    1. Crazyone says:

Looks more like the castle she use to live in at the everfree forest.

      1. Scarlet Rhine says:

It could be both. I don’t remember ever seeing TCftTS Exterior when the pair was living there.

  18. Prism Smasher says:

I’m surprised nobody made the connection that this might be a callback to Tia’s first time building a sandcastle…
    http://boe.boequestria.co.uk/comic/book-1-03/
Then again that was only the third page of the entire comic…

    1. Shieltar says:

Yeah… I’m surprised more people didn’t spot that.
